Zlink Smart Home Hub Provides Simplest, Most Affordable Road To a Smart Home

Zlink Smart Home Hub Provides Simplest, Most Affordable Road To a Smart Home

MOONACHIE, NJ (January 3, 2018) – In a highly competitive market where smart home hubs are everywhere, creating the world’s simplest, smallest and most cost-effective device to transform a dumb home into a smart home might come across as a bold mission.

But ZLINK believes that its Smart Home Hub can stake out a solid position based on its sub-$20 cost, ease of operation, and its primary purpose: exceptional local voice control of Z-Wave systems and devices, such as lighting, thermostats, door locks, and more.

The tiny but powerful ZLINK Smart Home Hub – which has quickly progressed from concept stage to prototype status in an ongoing Indiegogo funding campaign - features built-in Wi-Fi and Z-Wave radios, S2 Security with over-the-air updates, and requires only a USB power supply. Compatible with Amazon Alexa and certified Z-Wave devices, the hub provides voice control via Alexa, iOS and Android apps, as well as a web interface. The company started with Amazon Alexa as its first Smart Home Assistant, as it is the most developed and stable voice assistant currently available (future plans include the addition of Google Home and HomeKit).

The Indiegogo campaign is intended to raise awareness for the project; contributors to the campaign can pre-order the hub alone at a discounted price, or kitted with either ZLINK dimmers or switches (choice of in-wall or plug-in).

“We wanted to create a simple, small, inexpensive way to provide voice control of a Z-Wave system while providing the new S2 Security capability,” explained Mark Walters, CEO of ZLINK. “There are a lot of great hubs out in the market, but we felt they were all too complex, large or expensive. While the initial launch focuses on easy voice control, we will update the ZLINK Smart Home Hub over time to include all the same features of conventional hubs but at a lower price and with the new S2 Security.”

Walters added that the decision to start with Z-Wave was easy, given that it offers the largest, most diverse, most stable ecosystem of products and manufacturers of any home control technology. As ZLINK grows, the company will likely add other technologies such as Bluetooth, BLE and Mesh. Over time, the company will also add more devices for a fully featured, internet-based, remote experience.

ZLINK, conceived and executed by industry experts with deep experience in Home Control, Building Management, and Independent Living, exists to bring to market high-value, innovative solutions that complement the existing field of Certified Z-Wave products. ZLINK will create new products when necessary to complete solutions and will bring new technologies and device types to market. To learn more please visit

ZLINK Partners with eZLO to Launch ZLINK Smart Home, USB-powered Hub – The Smallest Smart Home Automation Hub on the Market

ZLINK Partners with eZLO to Launch ZLINK Smart Home, USB-powered Hub – The Smallest Smart Home Automation Hub on the Market

CLIFTON, N.J.– Jan. 3, 2018 –  eZLO, a global innovator and developer of home automation solutions, today announced its partnership with ZLINK to launch “ZLINK Smart Home Hub,” the smallest smart home automation hub on the market. The Wi-Fi, Amazon Alexa and Z-Wave compatible USB plug-in utilizes eZLO’s OEM smart home automation technology.

eZLO is targeting the command and control segment of the fast-growing Global Smart Home Automation Market, estimated at $11.9 billion in 2016 and projected to nearly triple to $32.8 billion in 2022, representing a 16.3 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR), according to a recent report from Statista. Household penetration is estimated at 26.5 percent in 2017 and is expected to hit 53.1 percent by 2022.

eZLO’s smart home automation OEM solution is helping reduce ZLINK’s time to market by providing all the core command and control components necessary to turn any home appliance, security automation, elder care monitoring or energy management HVAC/pool devices into a smart product. The eZLO OEM platform comprises four key elements needed to enable any manufacturer or service provider to create a complete smart home device solution by adding their brand with minimal development and investment:

  • The eZLO Hub/Controller Board supports Wi-Fi, Z-Wave and USB communication standards in a small footprint to fully enable home automation
  • Smart Phone and Web Applications are available on iOS, Android and the web, with lean and intuitive user interfaces to ensure top quality functionality and usability
  • A Secure Cloud Infrastructure, the backbone of any smart home automation strategy, and an essential component to connect everything together
  • Web-based Admin enables you to efficiently manage support tickets, check the status of your devices, launch maintenance checks and fix users’ troubles remotely to maintain your devices after they are sold and activated; backed by the eZLO support center to provide white-labeled expert support to customers

In the currently saturated but lacking world of home automation, there is a plethora of hub options that simply do not meet the bar. Limited functionality and frequencies, poorly engineered applications and difficult setups have limited the growth potential within the home automation market. eZLO has taken the lead in shaking things up by powering the smallest hub available with its world-class command and control platform, providing top-tier home automation access to everyone at a very low price point. Super-affordable at an introductory price of $20, ZLINK Smart Home Hub allows people to easily add voice control for devices like lighting, thermostats and door locks.

For end users, solutions built on the eZLO platform provide the smallest footprint with the maximum range. Unlike other home automation hubs that only support their own equipment, eZLO supports Z-Wave and Wi-Fi -based products, accessing vast collections of the best home control products available. After a simple plug and play installation, users can monitor and control all of their compatible home energy, appliance, security and entertainment devices with ease by using Amazon Alexa, the most developed and stable voice assistant currently available, for iOS and Android mobile devices or the web, all as part of the eZLO system. Other essential features include security for remote access, over-the-air (OTA) updates and smart push notifications.

ZLINK is a startup backed by a proven team that developed many of the home automation industry’s most successful products. For smart home appliance integration, the ZLINK Smart Home Hub is compatible with both Wi-Fi and certified Z-Wave devices, the standard that has the largest, most diverse and most stable ecosystem of products and manufacturers of any home control technology. Future versions will extend the range of technologies supported.

Availability of the ZLINK Smart Home Hub is planned for March 2018, and the smallest smart home automation hub can be preordered now for just $15.

“ZLINK partners with leaders in the IoT industry to bring best-in-class solutions to the market,” said Mark Walters, CEO, ZLINK Products. “We are proud to be working with eZLO as they provide our customers outstanding user experience and value when it comes to mobile and web interfaces.”

Come see eZLO and ZLINK at CES 2018, Booth 41717 in the Z-Wave Alliance Pavilion, at the Sands.

Sigma Designs Announces Winners

of Z-Wave Smart Home Maker Challenge

Sigma Designs Announces Winners

FREMONT, Calif., Dec. 21, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sigma Designs® (NASDAQ:SIGM), a leading provider of intelligent system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for connected smart TV platforms and smart home IoT, today announces three winners of the Z-Wave Smart Home Maker Challenge. The competition, hosted by Sigma and the Maker Share community platform from Make:, a leader of the Maker movement, was announced in September 2017.

All eligible submissions to the contest received a free Raspberry Pi equipped with the Z-Wave Developers kit and one Z-Wave certified device to help contestants build a smart home application to turn their dream smart home experience into a reality. Sigma Designs is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s contest:

Grand prize: Cameron Henkel – Aging in Place with Z-Wave: Remote Medication Dispenser - Using Z-Wave, Cameron designed a remote, smart medication dispenser that could be pre-loaded with the proper medication doses that would then be delivered on a set schedule to the user but also alert a caretaker if a dose was missed. As the grand-prize winner, Cameron will receive a hosted-trip to CES in Las Vegas, January 9-12, 2018. His smart home project will be showcased in the Z-Wave Alliance Smart Home Pavilion, located in the Sands (Booth 41717).

“I was initially interested in entering the challenge because I thought it would let me explore an area of computing and tech I wasn't familiar with,” said Cameron Henkel, grand prize winner. “I really like working with the Z-Wave technology because it gave me my first taste of developing for the Internet of Things and the considerations involved. With the experiences from this project I'm eager to continue working on smart home applications in the future.”

2nd Place: Soren Daugaard – Smart Home Automation Powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) -  Soren entered the competition with the goal to design a smart home experience. Rather than rely on a remote or smartphone to trigger specific smart home events, Soren sought out to create CLAIRE (a Continuously Learning AI Rules Engine) that would learn his habits and automatically adjust his smart home based off the data collected by sensors around his home and the time of day. As the second-place winner, Soren will receive $2,000 worth of certified Z-Wave devices from secondary sponsor

3rd Place: Tim Sills – IoT Sentry: Tim created an indoor/outdoor monitoring solution using off the shelf sensors and Z-Wave technology to create the IoT Sentry. The IoT Sentry houses Z-Wave sensors, is Internet accessible, and integrates with online service providers to trigger actions. It can lock/unlock doors, turn on and off lights, control water systems, send SMS messages, write to Google Docs, and control devices outside of the Z-Wave eco-system. As the third-place winner, Tim will receive $1,000 worth of certified Z-Wave devices from secondary sponsor

“The contest was a great success and we received so many excellent submissions,” said Carsten Steffensen, Moderator of the Public Z-Wave Forum for Sigma Designs. “We launched the contest to get more Makers accessing the Public Z-Wave specification to create unique and interesting Z-Wave applications. The community did not disappoint. Congratulations to our winners and a huge thank you to everyone who participated. Stay-tuned for similar competitions from us in the future.”

Silicon Labs (NASDAQ: SLAB) and Sigma Designs, Inc. (NASDAQ: SIGM) today announced a definitive agreement under which Silicon Labs will acquire Sigma Designs for $7.05per share in a cash transaction valued at approximately $282 million, subject to certain closing conditions. This price represents a 26 percent premium over Sigma Designs' closing price of $5.60 per share on Dec. 6, 2017.

Sigma Designs provides solutions for the connected home including Z-Wave, a leading Internet of Things (IoT) technology for smart home solutions. Z-Wave supplies some of the world's largest ecosystems of smart home IoT products with more than 2,100 certified, interoperable devices available from more than 600 manufacturers. The addition of Z-Wave will expand Silicon Labs' wireless connectivity portfolio and worldwide customer base for the connected home.

"The connected home represents one of the largest market opportunities in the IoT. Today, there is no single dominant wireless technology for home automation, and protocols include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth®, Zigbee®, Thread and proprietary," said Tyson Tuttle, CEO of Silicon Labs. "By adding Z-Wave technology to Silicon Labs' connectivity portfolio, we will be better positioned to serve this fast-growing market. Ecosystem providers and developers will have a one-stop shop for wireless connectivity solutions for the home."

The addition of Z-Wave extends connectivity options for developers and ecosystem providers and delivers alternatives to customers and markets for secure, interoperable IoT devices. Silicon Labs intends to work in collaboration with the Z-Wave Alliance to drive adoption and development of Z-Wave technology.

In addition, Sigma Designs is in active discussions with prospective buyers to divest its Media Connectivity business. Subsequent to divestiture and restructuring actions, Silicon Labs expects the acquisition of Sigma Designs to be accretive on a non-GAAP basis.

In the event that certain closing conditions are not met, the parties have agreed that Sigma Designs would instead sell its Z-Wave business to Silicon Labs for $240 million, contingent upon approval by Sigma Designs' stockholders.

The boards of directors of both companies have approved the transaction. Silicon Labs expects the transaction to close in the first calendar quarter of 2018.
